CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) -- A new study shows that students at Southeast Missouri State University provide a huge boost to the region’s economy.
The Southeast Missourian reports that a study released by the university Friday found students spend more than $63 million locally on everything from rent to food to tattoos over the nine-month school year.
University officials say the report can be useful for those looking to open a business in Cape Girardeau, or trying to reach the student demographic in the region.
The largest spending by students was $10.8 million for groceries, with $7 million each spent for gas and rent.
