(KMOV) -- St. Louis County officials are working on a plan that will redevelop the Jamestown Mall property in North County.
County economic officials say they spoke with North County residents about their plan to “blight” the mall, which closed down last week, but residents remain skeptical saying discussions about re-inventing the mall have gone on for years.
"They've been discussing this for years and nothing has changed," said Craig Porter, a member of the North County Problem Solving Committee. Porter says he doesn't have much hope things will be any different.
A contractor hired to inspect the property says the mall structure is deteriorating with roof and water damage, and is home to animals.
Once the property is blighted, officials hope to attract developers to build a mix of residential and business properties. It’s a process that could take as long as a decade.
