(KMOV.com) -- The St. Louis Convention and Visitor’s Commission is working to foster resident exploration of the St. Louis area to bolster tourism.
Wednesday the St. Louis CVC and the Fair St. Louis Foundation kicked of the 2013 travel season with the “Be a tourist in your own town” campaign.
More than 60 vendors set up booths in Kiener Plaza to give people ideas of how to plan a ‘staycation.’
City leaders say all residents will benefit from tourism.
“Each household in St. Louis City and County received $844 a year in tax savings as a result of travel and tourism, ” said Bob O’Loughlin, Chairman of the St. Louis CVC.
The tourism industry provides jobs for 80,000 residents.
