St. Charles (KMOV.com) – Police in St. Charles are warning residents about an increase in home burglaries that investigators say should never have happened.

In the most recent cases police say burglars are entering residences through unlocked back doors and open garage doors.

Over the past few days police have beefed up neighborhood patrols and officers report seeing many garage doors left open.

Police are reminding residents to make sure they lock the doors and windows of their homes and vehicles at night, and keep garage doors closed. Authorities also suggest residents do not leave garage door openers in cars parked in a driveway.

Anyone with information regarding recent break in, or suspicious activity should contact the St. Charles Police Department at 636-949-3320 or anonymously through St. Charles Crime Stoppers at 636-949-3333.
