(KMOV) – Doctors say a St. Ann police officer dropped dead in the police headquarters break room, but was revived thanks to a quick reaction from fellow officers.

“When it is a person you know and care about, it really hits home,” said St. Ann Police Sgt. Jason West, one of the officers attempting to save Detective Dave Campos. “(He was) blue in the face, his lips were blue, and he had labored and shallow breathing.”

Campos was in the St. Ann Police Department’s break room when he collapsed. He had previously been complaining of chest pain for a few days. As he was walking to the medicine cabinet, he passed out. It was later determined Campos had a clogged artery.

Officers began performing CPR on Campos and West called for the AED, despite fearing Campos had already died.

West says doctors on the scene said at some point and time, Campos had died. With a shock from the AED, Campos regained consciousness.

“It really did it’s job,” West said. “It was great to have that there. It saved him.”
