(KMOV) -- A middle school teacher, accused of having a sexual relationship with a prior student, was arrested and taken into police custody at a Lindbergh school on Tuesday.
The teacher was taken into custody while working at Sperreng Middle School following accusations that he had an ongoing sexual relationship with a former student.
Authorities tell News 4, the teacher is accused of having a long-term relationship with a student that dates back to 1996.
The student recently came forward to investigators but it is unclear whether the two met at Sperreng where the teacher is employed.
Police are currently investigating the possibility of additional victims at this time.
Parents were made aware of the arrest by a letter sent via email by the principal, Dr. Mark Eggers, Tuesday afternoon. It stated in part “a Sperreng Middle School teacher left in the custody of the St. Louis County Police.”
School officials are not releasing any other details regarding the arrest.
News 4’s Lindsay Bramson spoke with parents in the Lindbergh School District who were shocked by the allegations.
“We put them on such high pedestals and they really got to own up to it and they know that going in so the thought of even trying something should never have come into mind.”
“I was a little surprised it goes back that many years and that individual wouldn’t have brought the situation up earlier.”
That teacher has yet to be charged so police have not released his name or any other identifying information.
Charges are expected to be filed on Wednesday.
