(KMOV) – Police are searching for smash-and-grab thieves who drove into a jewelry store near the Olivette police station, took some items, then drove away.

Authorities said an Olivette police officer heard an alarm coming from the parking lot of Timekeepers Jewelry and Clock Shop in the 9400 block of Olive around 6 a.m.

He responded to the scene and saw a truck and SUV on the parking lot. According to police, the truck was used to back into the glass front door of the business. Police said the other vehicle, a light-colored SUV, fled the scene at a high rate of speed.

Olivette police said multiple officers gave chase and pursued the vehicle onto northbound I-170. Police said officers eventually stopped pursuing the vehicle at Natural Bridge due to safety concerns.

According to police, the truck used in the incident had been stolen in St. Louis five days ago.

It wasn’t immediately clear how much merchandise was taken from the store, which sells jewelry, coins and antiques. The business is located just east of the Olivette Police Department.

Additional details were not immediately available.
