(KMOV) -- The six year batlle between the St. Louis Archdiocese and St. Stanislaus church could be over soon.

Defrocked priest Rev. Marek Bozek said he is willing to step down as pastor if it means the church can reconcile with the archdiocese.

Bozek confirmed that he's been in talks that could end with him leaving St. Stanislaus church. He said he wants to do what's best for the church, even if it means he is not part of its future.

St. Stanislaus has been at odds with the archdiocese over control of the parish since 2004. Shortly after Bozek was hired, the archdiocese stripped the church of its standing as a Roman Catholic parish.

Any agreement over Bozek's removal would still have to be approved by the lay board at St. Stanislaus.
