(KMOV.com) – A Metro-East community is facing a major sewage problem.
The city of Roxanna only has two sewage pumps and both pumps stopped working.
This is forcing officials to dump sewage into an open lagoon near Sinclair Avenue in the meantime.
“Our problem was we never had two pumps go down. That’s all. We’ve got … we were in a bind so we did what was necessary,” said Roxanna Mayor Kenneth Beasley.
The sewage is now being sent to a treatment plant in Hartford, Ill. through pipes. Public works officials said they expect to have the issue fixed by next Wednesday.
