Accident reconstruction called to scene of Semi-truck fire in St. Genevieve County
(KMOV.com) – A man died after a semi-truck caught fire in St. Genevieve County late Thursday night.
Police say the victim was traveling in the southbound lanes of the interstate near mile marker 157 around 11:25 p.m. when the truck drifted off the road and hit the end of a guardrail.
The tanker separated from the cab and caught fire after going into a nearby creek. Flames engulfed the cab of the truck after it overturned on the Bloomsdale Bridge.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both north and southbound lanes on the interstate were closed for several hours at mile marker 157 while HazMat crews worked to clean hazardous chemicals that spilled. The northbound lanes were back open about 8 a.m. and the southbound lanes opened about an hour later.
Missouri Department of Transportation crews had to inspect the bridge before the interstate could reopen.
The cause of the fire was unknown.
