(KMOV) – Several Illinois tanning salon owners have expressed concerns about the new law that bans underage patrons.

Some salons say they have suffered as much as a 20 percent drop in sales since the law went into effect in January.

Hollywood Tan owner, Norma Rufkahr, says her sales are down a fifth of what they were last year. But, not only is she upset about the drop in sales at her franchise, she feels the state mishandled the rollout of the law.

“There's not been any type of bulletin or anything saying you need to make people aware of this law,” Rufkahr said. “The only way I would know is because it's been in the news.”

Rufkahr also feels the law takes the decision to tan out of the hands of the parents.
