(KMOV) – Riverview Gardens School District will select a second accredited district to accommodate the large number of students wishing to transfer.
Mehlville School District will only take in about one-third of the students applying to transfer from unaccredited Riverview Gardens.
Mehlville officials say they had more than 400 students from Riverview Gardens apply but will only have space for about 150 of those students. They say more students are applying every day.
Under state guidelines, Riverview Gardens will have to select a second district in which they will provide bus transportation.
Another option is for Riverview Gardens’ officials to figure out a way to select which 150 students that applied at Mehlville will actually attend the school in the fall.
Riverview officials say when students applied for transfer schools, they gave the district three options of districts they prefer. This may help officials determine the second district. The deadline for applicaitons is August 1.
Riverview Gardens has not selected a second district for free bus transportation at this time.
