BELLEVILLE, Il (KMOV.com) -- Larry Rice has tried and failed to set up homeless shelters and camps in the St. Louis area.
Now, in a move that is sure to draw controversy, Reverend Rice says he’s interested in starting up a new homeless shelter in downtown Belleville.
The New Life Evangelistic Center wants to convert a former YMCA on North First Street into a shelter.
Belleville Mayor Mark Eckert said he hasn’t heard anything from Rice about his intentions, and says the move is just another publicity stunt.
The center told News 4 it has good intentions.
