(KMOV.com) – Two people are dead and another is critically injured following an armed robbery at a southern Ill. bank.
According to police, a man entered the First National Bank of Cairo through a side door on Thursday at 5:15 p.m. armed with a knife and a handgun for an armed robbery. During the robbery, the suspect stabbed three employees, fatally wounding two and critically injuring another.
Following the stabbing, the suspect took off in a Buick and was caught around 9:15 p.m. about two miles away from the bank. Police say the suspect is in his “20s or 30s”, is from Cairo and is familiar to local cops.
The injured employee was transported to an area hospital and undergoing treatment.
According to the bank’s website, the lobby closes at 4:00 p.m. and the drive-up window closes at 4:30 p.m.
Cairo is located in southern Ill. approximately 150 miles from St. Louis.
The investigation is ongoing.
