(KMOV) -- The price to heat homes in Missouri will soon see an increase. Laclede Gas said a rate hike of 9 percent will begin on March 4.

They estimate the average bill will go up by about $5.

Laclede officials attribute the increase to the brutal cold winter, which has driven up demand and prices for natural gas.

“This rate adjusts for what Laclede Gas has been paying for natural gas which we pass to our customers with no mark up,” says Laclede spokesperson Jenny Gobble.
