(KMOV) -- Police are looking for several suspects breaking into homes throughout St. Louis County.

The most recent break-ins occurred in South County near the intersections of Interstates 55 and 270. Police say the suspects are going around asking residents if they need any yard work done.

Residents in a quiet South County neighborhood are on edge Thursday after two men broke into a woman’s home by kicking in the back door.

Police say they knocked on her door and when she didn’t answer they assumed she wasn’t home. However she was inside and hid hoping they wouldn’t hurt her.

“Right now no one has been hurt but as brave as these folks seem to be getting right now breaking into homes it’s a nightmare waiting to happen if we don’t put a stop to it,” said St. Louis County Police Officer, Randy Vaughn.

Just a few miles away on Weber Trail, another house was hit and it’s believed to be the same suspects.

“We’re very careful that our house looks like someone’s there even if they’re not there,” said a concerned resident.

According to police, the burglars knock on doors pretending to be yard workers.

They’re after electronics and in some cases getting away with thousands of dollars worth of stuff. They’re mainly hitting homes close to major interstates so it’s a quick getaway.

Officer Vaughn said, “they are giving off signs that they clearly don’t belong in those areas and all we’re asking is citizens keep an eye on neighbors and streets.”

The suspects are believed to be driving either a dark blue minivan or a Ford explorer.
