(KMOV.com) – Authorities identified the man who allegedly kidnapped his one-year-old son in Belleville Thursday.
Police said 23-year-old Ramonte K. Gibbs, of Fairview Heights, has been charged with one count of child abduction.
Authorities said Gibbs was traveling in the same car as the child’s mother along North Belt West near Frank Scott Parkway when the two got into an argument. Police said she then pulled to side of the road, where Gibbs then got out of the car and took their son with him. The mother told police she did not give him permission to take the child.
Police later learned Gibbs and the mother were never married, and had no established custody agreement.
Police said Gibbs was later arrested at a Wal Mart in O'Fallon, Ill.
Gibbs is in custody at the St. Clair County Jail on a $1,000 bond.
