EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois State Police have released the identity of a man whose body was found in a park near East St. Louis.

The St. Clair County Coroner's Office identified Byron Perkins, 32 of Washington Park. Perkins'  body was found shortly before 10 a.m. Friday in Frank Holten State Park by a citizen walking in the park who then reported it to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Lt. Dave Wasmuth said the body showed some types of trauma, but he didn't elaborate.

Police are ruling Perkins' death a homicide.
