(KMOV) – Police are searching for a gunman who shot and killed an 11-year-old boy who was sitting inside a home in south St. Louis Wednesday evening.
Police say the gunman stood on a ledge outside of a home in the 2600 block of Tholozan Ave. around 9 p.m. The suspect then broke a window and fired between eight and 10 rounds into the home.
The child was struck in the head as he sat working on a computer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 4-year-old, a 7-year-old, two teens and two adults were also inside the home when the shooting occurred, but they were not hurt.
Officers were quick to respond and set up a perimeter to search for possible suspects. One person inside the home was taken into custody for questioning. They are not considered a suspect in the shooting.
Police believe someone in the home other than the child was the intended target.
“We do not believe the (child) was a target in this,” St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson. “One of the teenage boys in the house had been previously shot and we do believe he has some information that can be helpful in this investigation.
Police did not have any information on a possible suspect.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on the shooting to call Crimestoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
