(KMOV.com) – Town and Country police  arrested a nursing assistant in a retirement community after discovering she was stealing from residents there.

Capt Gary Hoelzer said on April 19 a female resident reported money stolen from her residence at Mari de Villa Retirement Community.

Since Dec 2012, she said had money disappearing and thought she’d misplaced it. On April 19 though, she knew for certain money was taken.

She told Mari de Villa and they notified Town and Country PD. Hoelzer said that same day they installed surveillance cameras in the woman’s residence. On April 22, PD was notified that their bait money was gone and the surveillance video showed it was a female nursing assistant behind the theft.

After looking at the video, managers were able to identify the 39-year-old woman. She was scheduled to show up to work the next day and officers were waiting for her. She was arrested. No charges have been filed. Hoelzer says their case has been sent to the prosecutor’s office.

Fred Wiesenhan, manager at the retirement community, said administrators won’t change practices in light of the theft. He said this is only the second call to police at the retirement community. Wiesenhan said they will continue to screen their employees. This particular employee had been there for six years, had no previous record but fell on hard times, according to police.

Hoelzer said they believe the suspect did have other victims and took about $5,000 from residents there. They know for certain she took about $4,000 from the victim who reported the theft on April 19.
