(KMOV.com) – A man who allegedly made threats against a Granite City middle school is in custody after being apprehended in a bar.

55-year-old Robert Dean Smith has been charged with one ocunt of making a terroristic threat.

According to Granite City police, Smith made a specific threat against the Coolidge Middle School Thursday through a mental health service.

The middle school and nearby Granite City High School were placed on lockdown while officers investigated the threat.

The middle school students were sheltering in place, and though the high school was dismissed about 10 minutes before the reported escape, all after school activities were on lock down.

The lockdown was canceled just before 4:20 p.m. after authorities determined the suspect was not in an area near the schools.

Following an investigation, authorites traced the area where the call came from and arrested the suspect inside El Gato Tavern.

Smith is being held at the Madison County Jail. Bond has been set at $500,000.
