(KMOV.com) -- A man has been charged with murder after a teenage girl was found dead in the Columbia, Ill. home he shares with his brother, police said on Saturday.
Jordan Kuykendall, 20, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend, Erin Schneider.
Schneider, 17, was found in the 200 block of Riebeling around noon on Thursday, the same day she was to appear for a court hearing on a protection order issued against Kuykendall on her behalf.
Schneider’s mother had obtained the order June 13 on her daughter’s behalf. It was to have been argued in court an hour after her body was found.
Police say two hours before Schneider's body was discovered, Kuykendall was hospitalized after his car crashed head-on with another vehicle near his home. On Saturday, police said Kuykendall had apparently caused the crash.
Kuykendall is listed in stable condition at a St. Louis hospital, but police said he is not cooperating in the investigation.
Deputy Commander Thomas Coppotelli said an autopsy revealed Schneider died of multiple stab wounds to the neck and upper torso.
A prayer vigil was held for Schneider at Immaculate Conception Church in Columbia on Friday. About 60 people were in attendance.
Kuykendall's bond has been set at $1 million.
