(KMOV.com) – When a Jefferson County woman opened her door, she says she found a shotgun pointed right at her. And she believes had she not fought back, she wouldn’t be able to tell her story.
The victim, a woman in Pevely, Missouri, who wished to remain anonymous said she opened her door when she heard a knock at her home in the 900 block of Peggy Drive.
“He had it, like down by his leg. He pulls it up and cocks it,” the victim explained, “It was fear. It was, ‘Oh my God, it has never happened before,’ and just get him away from you quickly.”
The victim said she fought back, knowing it might be her only chance at survival.
“My immediate response was, push him down the porch,” she said, “So he stumbles down and runs down my street.”
The victim said she then ran inside her home and called 911. Pevely investigators are searching for the masked man, but police said they know how lucky the victim was to survive.
“The victim pushing him backwards with the shotgun in her face. That could have ended very badly,” said Captain Sullivan, “I’m sure she was fearful and thought that was best, but we would not recommend that.”
