(KMOV) – In the latest segment of News 4 Schools, Claire Kellett sat down with two lawmakers who believe the student transfer program is a mess and explained what can be done to work it out.

Twenty years ago, Missouri School Transfer Statute was put in place to scare struggling school districts to get their act together.

At the time, no districts were unaccredited and no one predicted the mess it would cause now.

Representative Bob Burns said he things the current statute in Missouri is terrible and needs to be addressed.  “The most important thing is the kids, the whole exercise is what is good for the students,” Burns said.

Democratic Representative Burns and Representative Rick Stream, a republican, acknowledge things won’t change this year but they promise change when they head back to the statehouse in January.

On Tuesday’s edition of News 4 This Morning, Claire Kellett presses the lawmakers about why previous attempts to change this statute failed.
