(KMOV.com) – Landscapers began laying new sod at the St. Louis courthouse Thursday.
However, some are wondering why the National Park Service spent so much taxpayer money on sod when grass seed is so dramatically cheaper.
The company laying the turf said seed would be between 60 and 70 percent cheaper.
The NPS says sod allows for immediate results, and gets the courthouse back to the way it was prior to construction much faster.
The lawn work is the final step in the Cornice Project, which was a $3.4 million effort to restore the courthouse.
Landscapers will finish laying all the sod Friday.
