(KMOV) -- A bill is being proposed in Illinois that would allow students to skip gym class if they are in show choir.
Current state law allows upperclassmen who participate in varsity sports out of gym class if they have a game at the time of class.
Representative Ron Sandack is the one who proposed the new law which will grant the same excuse to students who are in choir.
“I think this is a terrible idea. Students need to get all the exercise they can,” Linda Gallup, a parent, said.
If the student wishes, they can get a physical education credit for no physical exercise. The bill is still on the table and the rules committee is currently reviewing it.
