FENTON, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A south St. Louis County woman whose wallet was stolen said purchases totaling thousands of dollars were charged to her credit cards within an hour of the theft.
Regina Hoernschemeyer told News 4 she was looking at items in a Cracker Barrel gift shop in Fenton when someone stole her wallet.
Over the next hour, $2400 was charged to her credit cards at a Target store in the Gravois Bluffs shopping center.
Thirty minutes later, another $1500 was charged at the Walmart across the street.
Hoernschemeyer said one of the cards used to make a fraudulent purchase had her photo on the front. Both Target and Walmart officials said their policies are to check photos and IDs, but busy shopping days meant more pressure on cashiers to move customers along quickly.
Police have reviewed surveillance footage showing a possible suspect, but the investigation continues.
