UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (KMOV) – The mother of a man who was shot after police say he pointed a gun at them claims her son was unarmed and is a victim.
Police said officers started pursuing Darius Robinson near Skinner and Page when they saw him pointing a gun at them. They tried to pull him over, but police say he led them on a chase that ended up in University City off Roberts Avenue.
Authorities said Robinson pointed a rifle at officers. That is when the one the officers shot him in the ankle. Police said his gun appeared to be an assault rifle.
Witnesses tell News 4 that they never saw him with a gun and his mother wants answers about what happened to her son.
“I got out and I said ‘is my son shot?’ (Police said) ‘get away from here…get away from here or we are going to lock you up,’” Alice McBride said.
University Police has not released the details as they continue to investigate the shooting.
Robinson’s mother and a neighbor also claim it took 45 minutes for an ambulance to arrive.
Neighbors near the scene claim they did not see a weapon.
