(KMOV) -- MoDOT is warning drivers about work zone safety as the transition into highway construction season begins.
Work Zone Awareness Week begins as MoDOT has many Interstate 64 construction plans.
According to MoDOT officials, one third of all work zone crashes are due to speeding. Slowing down and moving over for highway workers is required under state law.
“The bottom line is you need to slow down,” said Greg Horn of MoDOT. “Help us through the work zone. We want our workers safe. We want the traveling motorists safe also.”
MoDOT posts construction warnings on message boards overhead and to the side of roads.
