(KMOV) --MODOT is hoping a new repair job on the Poplar Bridge will fix a nagging problem for drivers.
Workers spent this past weekend putting down a sticky polymer to keep pavement from peeling off of metal plates on the bridge, which was built in 1967.
MODOT said the bridge is one of less than 100 in the country with the unique design. However the extreme Midwest weather and pounding traffic are making the pavement peeling worse.
Officials say they’ve consulted with engineers at Mizzou and in California.
MODOT does have plans to add lanes and make the roadway on the bridge stronger by 2015.
