(KMOV.com) – Missouri Department of Transportation crews were scattered throughout the St. Louis area to prep the roads for the first winter storm of the season Thursday.
In an effort to ensure commuters make the morning drive safely, crews have been loading up trucks with a salt brine and beat juice mix and spraying area highways.
The treatment will keep the snow from sticking to the roadway and prevent black ice.
"Especially with these warm temperatures today, we know the snow is going to melt initially,” said MoDOT’s Becky Allmeroth. “But when those temperatures drop we are almost expecting conditions with black ice so we’re preparing for that.”
Crews continue to spray the roads before the first snowflakes start to fall.
