(KMOV.com) -- Road crews in Missouri and Illinois are preparing for a significant winter storm on Sunday, with snow expected to accumulate on area roads.
MoDOT officials said their approach will be "all hands on deck," with 45 employees working 12-hour shifts, and 32 trucks on the roads.
With rain expected to fall before snow, crews were unable to salt roads ahead of time. However, MoDOt said workers would be out treating roads on Saturday night and throughout Sunday.
Todd Waeltermann, St. Louis streets director, said the best approach drivers can take is to avoid taking unnecessary trips during heavy snowfall.
"If the snow is predicted to come down the way it's predicted -- over an inch an hour -- your visibility is real low, and we're not going to be able to keep up with the snow coming down on the street," Waeltermann said.
