(KMOV) – An active member of the U.S. Military is being accused of using his military status and uniform for personal profit in St. Charles.

Kevin Late was charged this week with misdemeanor theft.

St. Charles Police said they caught Lane soliciting money without a permit on Main Street over the last month. Lane was in his uniform and had already received a warning from police to stop.

He claimed he was raising money for a going away party for his unit in the Army Reserves but it was really going straight to his pocket.
