(KMOV.com) -- A Dupo, Ill. mother is not taking any chances with Mother Nature after surviving two tornadoes and a hurricane.

Christie Kegg said the birth of her son four years ago prompted her to build a $5,000 bunker. She said the peace of mind the bunker brings her has made it a worthy investment.

"You may not have time to go to a neighbor's house, or even get out of your bed," said Kegg.

The Flat Safe bunker rests under the floor of her garage, sealed by 200 pounds of galvanized steel and stocked with necessary supplies.

Kegg said it took the family years of research and financial planning to have the bunker installed.

"Me making a $75 payment to ensure my family is safe?" said Kegg. "It's more than worth it."
