(KMOV.com) -- Metro-East fans traveling in to watch the SIUC-SEMO football game Saturday afternoon at Busch ran into problems getting home due to major construction along I-55.

IDOT closed the westbound lanes of I-55/I-70 from Route 203 to the split at I-64. They also closed the eastbound lanes of I-64 from the split to 18th Street Exit.

According to IDOT, the closures give crews a chance to work on the approach to the new Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge.

IDOT suggests drivers avoid the area until all lanes are reopened Monday. Detours are also available for drivers.

Jeff Church with IDOT said one of the detours set-up for drivers adds about six to seven miles to the commute into St. Louis.
