(KMOV) -- The father of a 16-year-old north St Louis County student said his son was suspended from school for defending himself during a fight off school property.

Harry Love told News 4 his son, Kristopher Redmond, was ambushed by another teen as he walked home from McCluer North High School on Friday.

Love said because his son fought back he’s now been hit with a ten day suspension by the Ferguson-Florissant School District.

A district official said the suspension was given because even though the fight was off school property they believe it might have been planned at school.

Redmond said the teen who went after him is not a student at McCluer North.

The District will hold a hearing in which Redmond could end up being expelled from school.
