McCluer South-Berkeley student charged after loaded gun found in backpack

(KMOV) -- A McCluer South-Berkeley High School student was arrested Wednesday after school officials found a handgun in his backpack.

Davion Henderson, 17, was charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon after he was caught allegedly carrying a loaded gun in his backpack.  Authorities say the weapon may have been stolen.

According to Ferguson-Florissant School District, school administrators and the school resource officer were notified by another student around 10 a.m. of suspicions that  Henderson may have a weapon 

Henderson was immediately located, escorted to the school office where his backpack was searched. A loaded 9 mm Glock semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine was recovered and he was arrested and taken to the Ferguson Police Department.

School officials also say Henderson was suspended with an expulsion hearing pending in accordance with the district’s policy for a weapons offense.

Bond for Henderson was set at $10,000. 

Ferguson Police will release more information as it becomes available.
