UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (KMOV) – Police say two people are in custody after a teenager was shot while walking in University City on Tuesday.

Authorities said the victim, 17, was walking in an alley in the 7200 block of Drexel when he was shot in the head around 12:30 p.m.

The victim was transported to the hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

Police confirmed two people - one of them confined to a wheelchair - were taken into custody after they were caught within blocks of the shooting.

Police say there was some sort of dispute over what they think was a drug deal, and the man in the wheelchair, they say fired the shots.

“Two people had been seen one leaving the area heading west and another gentleman in a wheelchair was also seen leaving the area going south in the alley both were stopped we later recovered one weapon that was discarded by the gentleman in the wheelchair,” said University City Police Chief Charles Adams.

Police say the 17 year old victim also appeared to have a weapon, but likely didn’t use it.
