(KMOV) -- Police in Byrnes Mill say they have a man in custody suspected of impersonating a police officer and trying to stop at least one driver on Thursday.

Police tell News 4 the 27-year-old man was stopped as he tried to stop a female driver along Route W Thursday afternoon.

“He identified himself as having a concealed carry, he had a gun, I looked in the car and seen he got pepper spray and flashlight on the side, a couple knives strapped on him I got him out of the car and talked to him and he had a boot knife in his leg too, he said he’s a good Samaritan who likes to stop and help people broke down,” said Byrnes Mill Sgt. Roger Ide.

Police say the man was driving a red Buick equipped with multi-colored flashing lights.

Byrnes Mill Police are investigating if the suspect has attempted this impersonation before. If you were stopped by this red car and encountered a similar experience, contact the Byrnes Mill Police Department.
