ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A 25-year-old man has been charged in the July murder of 18-year-old Aniya Cook.

Richard Reynolds on Wednesday was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault and two counts of armed criminal actions.

According to police, Aniya Cook was sitting in a car in the 5100 block of Highland Avenue about 1 a.m. on July 31, consoling her boyfriend about another shooting earlier that night. Court documents said Reynolds and others had been waiting for the pair to return to the car, then fired guns into the vehicle.

Cook was shot in the face and died three days later. She was a National Honor Society student who was about to attend Missouri State University on a scholarship.

Her boyfriend, who was also shot, survived.
