EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- A second federal lawsuit has been filed against a southwestern Illinois sheriff who's also been accused of harassing a former female employee.
The new lawsuit names Madison County Sheriff Robert Hertz and the county. In Wednesday's court filing, Madison County Sheriff's Capt. Eric Decker claims Hertz violated his rights by searching his phone records and personal records.
The suit also alleges the sheriff retaliated against Decker for speaking up against the sheriff's alleged treatment of a female employee. Decker is seeking at least $50,000 in compensatory damages and $75,000 in punitive damages on each of his two claims.
Hertz's former secretary, Jaimie Linton, filed a lawsuit Tuesday alleging Hertz created a hostile work environment.
Hertz has denied the allegations. Messages left for him at his home were not immediately returned.
