(KMOV.com) – A St. Louis-area medical worker is accused of using credit card of elderly veteran's home resident for her own expenses.

40-year-old nurses' assistant Karen Rutherford of north St. Louis County has been charged with one count of fraudulently using a credit or debit device.

Police said Rutherford, who works at the Missouri Veterans Home in Bellefontaine Neighbors, used a Discover Card belonging to a blind 91-year-old resident of the facility in October, 2012.

Authorities said she used the card to pay for a gas bill and rent on her apartment. Police said Rutherford told them the veteran gave her permission to use the card for the gas bill but not for the rent.
