(KMOV) – Local members of Congress say they are hearing from citizens who are weary of war in the wake of the Syria mission debate.

“What does this accomplish in the end and I don’t think it accomplishes very much.”

Republican John Shimkus of Illinois is not sold on the idea of military action in Syria.

It’s a complicated question that many members of Congress are kicking around.

And Shimkus is not alone, at least two others locally are joining him; Congresswoman Ann Wagner and Congressman Blaine Leutkemeyer, both republicans from Missouri.

Those that are still undecided are democrats, Congressman Lacey Clay of St Louis and Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill.

Illinois Senator Dick Durbin is part of another group along with fellow senators Mark Kirk of Illinois and Roy Blunt of Missouri who said they are dead set against putting any troops on the ground.

“I take it very seriously the language be as precise as possible when in expanding this mission into something much larger that would engage us in a new level of warfare.”

Lawmakers are clearly facing some very tough decisions in the days ahead.
