(KMOV) – A local car wash refuses to wash two Jeep models over concerns about sudden unintended acceleration.

The Waterway chain of car washes will not wash Jeep Cherokees or Grand Cherokees made before 2011.

“Waterway has experienced an unacceptable number of dangerous and costly accidents involving pre-2011 Jeep Cherokees and Grand Cherokees,” a company spokesperson said. “At Waterway, employee and customer safety is our chief concern. Therefore, we have made the decision to stop washing these vehicles.”

A spokesman for Chrysler told News 4 the policy is unfair and unjustified and that Jeeps meet or exceed all federal safety standards.

The news comes on the heels of several News 4 stories investigating Hyundai vehicles suddenly accelerating.
