O’FALLON, Mo. (KMOV) – Two firefighters were injured after a late-ight lightning strike sparked a fire at an O’Fallon home Tuesday.
Authorities say firefighters were called to investigate a lightning strike on the Tournament Tee Lane around 8 p.m. When they arrived, heavy smoke could be seen coming from a nearby duplex unit.
Residents of the duplex made it out safely as fire crews kept the fire under control. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while attending to the fire. They were treated at the scene and released.
Fire investigators report the preliminary cause of the fire to be a lightning strike until further investigations deem otherwise.
