Illinois lawmakers spar as SAFB faces massive cuts

(KMOV.com) -- Congress has until Friday to stop the so-called sequestration budget cuts that will slash $85 billion during the next year.

Those cuts were designed to be so painful that Congress would be forced to avoid them, but Congress can’t agree on how to make them, so it appears the cuts are going to happen after all.

At Scott Air Force Base, thousands of civilian jobs are at risk, and Illinois lawmakers are doing battle with words over how to manage the cuts.
