Police are warning Kirkwood and Webster Groves residents after a half-dozen guns have been stolen in the area within the last two weeks.
Webster Groves police recently scoured E. Jackson St. investigating a home break-in and discovered four guns were stolen from the home after the suspects forced their way in.
Just a couple miles away, on S. Holmes Ave. in Kirkwood, a handgun was stolen from a vehicle. A similar incident happened in the 800 block of N. Kirkwood Rd.
“I’m just a believer that there are far too many guns on the street as it is. It’s like the Wild West to me. Too many guns wind up in the hands of the wrong people,” said Webster Groves Police Officer Rick Conaway.
The burglary case in Webster Groves is one of the recent cases that’s sparked what Webster Groves police call an increase of preventative patrols in residential areas.
“I have noticed cars go by, which was not happening before, o that is something they’ve started to do, and that’s nice to know too,” said resident Karen Soracco.
Police do not have any suspects in the gun theft cases, but stress the importance of securing all guns so they can’t be easily stolen.
