(KMOV) -- Granite City officials have released incredible video footage of drivers running red lights from the city's only red light camera.
Officials released the footage to News 4 amidst backlash from the public. Citizens of Granite City feel that the red light camera, located at the intersection of 27th Street and Madison Avenue, is just another “money grab” for the city.
One Granite City police Captain has a different opinion. He feels that safety is the number one priority. And with the red light camera located at one of the city’s most popular intersection—by and ice cream parlor—the city is concerned about the safety of those patrons during the warmer weather months.
Police say that although no serious accidents have happened at the intersection, the video footage is proof enough of why the city needs it.
Drivers caught running the red light will have to pay a $100 fine.
