GRANITE CITY, Ill. -- A southwestern Illinois attorney is being suspended for five months for allegedly forging clients’ signatures in a series of bankruptcy cases.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Alexander Wilson’s suspension by the regulatory Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission begins Oct. 16.

Wilson allegedly forged clients’ signatures on documents he filed and represented that those signatures belonged to them.

The commission says the clients in most cases had not reviewed the documents or authorized Wilson to sign them, and at least one of the pleadings was not factually accurate.

Wilson could not be reached for comment Wednesday. He does not have a listed home telephone number, and his Granite City law office’s phone has been disconnected.
