(KMOV) – A Granite City man was accused of impersonating a police officer in an effort to get information on a former spouse.

Investigators say Jason Yarber, 37, allegedly knocked on a woman’s front door last Thursday.  He told the woman he was an investigating officer with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department and that he was investigating a case at a near-by home.

The nearby home in the 2300 block of Orville Avenue belongs to his ex-wife.

Police say they were able to track him down fairly easy as he gave the woman his actual cell phone number.

He was charged with felony false impersonation of a police officer and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Police said he was also in possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine when he was arrested.

His bond was set at $50,000.
